This 12 track offering is not only ambitious but blends several genres such as jazz, pop, funk and soul with her signature jazz. As the title reveals, Radio Music Society is much more radio friendly in terms of mainstream familiarity.

Spalding worked with several notable producers and artists, such as legendary saxaphonist, Joe Lovano, Algebra Blesset (whom she wrote Crowned & Kissed with), drummer Billy Hart, organist James Weidman and 2 songs produced by none other than Q-Tip.

Radio Music Society also comes with companion videos that are available for download or with a dvd with the deluxe version. Shot in various locations including New York City; Barcelona, Spain; and Portland, Oregon.

Radio Music Society is a companion, rather than a sequel, to Spalding’s previous disc, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart. “Originally I thought it would be fun to release a double album,” she explains, “One disc with an intimate, subtle exploration of chamber works and a second one in which jazz musicians explore song forms and melodies that are formatted more along the lines of what we would categorize as “pop songs.” Those are the two things that really interest me, and it intrigues me to think about different presentation approaches while writing each kind of song. After bad experiences with major labels Van Hunt’s What Were You Hoping For? was released on his own label godless-hotspot and crosses several genres from rock, soul to even jazz.
